Research describes Old Faithful's underground pipeline

Scientists can finally fully articulate how Old Faithful's underground water system works, according to a study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters. An egg-shaped cavern below is at least 50 feet high and connects to a pipe at a 24-degree angle. Steam bubbles fill the chamber and oscillates water into the conduit, and this bubble trap leads to a steam explosion.
