Researchers successfully create a lab-grown kidney that works

A bioengineered kidney transplanted into a rat successfully produced urine, an optimistic sign for researchers who say the method could be used on humans who suffer kidney failure. Scientists say the method needs further refinement before it could be considered for human use. In addition, the lab-grown kidney requires the use of existing kidney proteins, meaning a donor kidney would still be needed.
