Many employers not ready for medical privacy deadline

Many employers offering health plans appeared unready to meet this week's deadline to comply with federal medical privacy laws. As few as 5% of employers with health plans are in compliance with the rules, which require them to ensure that decisions regarding hiring, firing and promotion are never based on medical information, according to an informal survey.
