Effects of bullying can last a lifetime

Research indicates victims of bullies not only suffer from lower grades and higher absenteeism than their classmates, but they tend to have fewer friends and be more depressed as adults. In one study, UCLA scholars found nearly half the 192 middle school students they interviewed had been bullied at least once, and an even higher percentage said they'd seen classmates harassed.
