Fed seeks ways to add transparency to lending programs

The Federal Reserve is taking a hard look at steps to boost transparency -- including regular news conferences and disclosure of collateral being held -- for its emergency lending programs that aim to restore liquidity to the U.S. financial system, sources said. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke asked Vice Chairman Donald Kohn to head a committee responsible for evaluating ways to make the central bank's actions more open.
