In recession, all counties are not equal

A county-by-county map of how employment has changed during the past three years shows that certain regions felt the brunt of the recession much earlier than others. In August 2007, New Jersey and Detroit already sensed the bust, while Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area were blissfully riding the housing boom. Fast-forward to today, and the map compiled by Slate provides a startling visual of just how widespread the crisis has become.
