The energy the world could save if everyone used effective spam filters is equivalent to that used by about 2.3 million cars on the road, according to a study commissioned by security software maker McAfee. The most energy-hogging spam-related activity is not sending it, but opening and deleting it when it manages to get past the filters, according to this article.
