Vendors offer alternatives to data caps on mobile broadband

As U.S. operators try to develop a workable billing model that will encourage new mobile-broadband applications while recouping their operational expenses, HP, Allot Communications and other vendors are offering alternatives to the traditional data caps. Scott Poretsky, Allot's director of solutions architecture, said "HP is leveraging our DPI technology so it can have subscriber and application awareness on millions of flows in the network," while leaving platform charges and policies up to the operator.
