CDC reports decline in food-borne illnesses from 6 pathogens

Cases of infections from salmonella, E. coli and four other food-poisoning agents declined over the past 15 years, shortly after the establishment of the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. The health officials also attributed the reductions to other government initiatives, including efforts of the USDA to improve regulation of meat and poultry processing.
