Google takes Twitter users back in time

A tool from Google lets users search archived data from Twitter's real-time data feed, effectively allowing people to peer back in time as they trawl through tweets that have long disappeared from the site's own pages. The "replay" feature seeks to turn ephemeral Twitter streams into a public record, allowing researchers to see what people were saying about different topics at specific points in time. The feature now covers all tweets back to Feb. 11 of this year, though eventually it will reach all the way back to March 21, 2006.
