Recycling industrial energy boosts profits, lowers emissions

A diverse coalition of nearly 90 organizations, including the American Chemistry Council and the Sierra Club, want federal tax incentives for energy efficiency in the manufacturing sector, the nation's largest user of energy. Capturing waste heat, recycling energy and combining heat and power systems in manufacturing can meet 20% of America's electricity needs and create 1 million high-tech jobs, said Dick Munson, senior vice president at Recycled Energy Development. "I think the whole climate debate gets skewed because we often hear that if we're going to tackle climate change, it's going to hurt the economy," Munson said.
