EU moves forward with reform of MiFID

The European Commission plans to propose legislation by July on an overhaul of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive. Reform of MiFID has taken longer than expected because it has become more expansive than planned. Initially, MiFID II was supposed to address holes in the directive, but consultation that was published was more expansive, including equities, derivatives, commodities and fixed income.
