Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., has introduced the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011, an updated version of a bill introduced last year to modernize the Toxic Substances Control Act. The new version addresses some of the chemical industry's regulatory concerns and divides chemicals into three categories to determine varying levels of safety concerns. "Our current law forces EPA to search for dangerous chemicals. This bill puts a mandate on companies to confirm safety before chemicals reach the market," Lautenberg said.
