U.S. airlines' passenger count ascends for 12th straight month

U.S. airlines carried more passengers in January 2011 than in January 2010, marking the 12th month in a row that passenger counts exceeded the year-earlier mark. Airlines carried 53.7 million passengers in January, according to the Department of Transportation. Traffic increased 3.5%, and capacity rose 2.3%.
