ICE optimistic about CDS futures despite some traders' concerns

IntercontinentalExchange is optimistic that the four new credit default swap futures products it is planning to launch will garner strong interest, despite a lack of enthusiasm for similar products in the past. "Dealer support for previous attempts was ambivalent or even hostile, but now there is a trend towards more futures style markets," said ICE Clear Credit Chief Operating Officer Peter Barsoom. While some traders agree that a simple futures product for CDS may be desirable, many remain skeptical that the upcoming products from ICE are necessarily that product.
