Expert: Distracted driving was factor in 1.4M crashes in N.J. over 10 years

Distracted driving was a contributing factor in 1.4 million crashes and 1,600 deaths in New Jersey over a 10-year period, according to acting Attorney General John Hoffman. New Jersey law enforcement officers have written about 3,000 tickets so far this month as part of a national effort to toughen enforcement of laws against handheld cellphone use, Hoffman said.
