Industry to urge W.Va. Legislature once more to approve pooling bill

A pooling bill failed in the West Virginia Legislature, but supporters have vowed to try again. "If we want to be able to capitalize and monetize the potential that this shale development can do for West Virginia, we need a statute that allows us to pool tracts," said Corky DeMarco, executive director of the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association. The bill, which would permit companies to drill horizontal wells for shale natural gas even if some landowners object, would enable "the majority of landowners to benefit from gas royalties while still protecting minority interests," said Steve Roberts, president of the state Chamber of Commerce.
