Report: Rx drug spending, use of health care services went up in 2013

A report released today by the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics found that Americans spent more on prescription drugs and used more health services in 2013 than in recent years. IMS attributed the increased spending on factors such as price hikes on certain brand-name drugs, the cost of new drugs, fewer patent expirations compared with 2012 and the first increase in the use of health care services in three years.
