Educators: NCLB sparked better ELL curricula

Teaching English-language learners without a strong plan in place was a "train wreck," says English-as-a-second-language teacher Kelly M. Healey, but with the help of a college professor, Healey and another ELL teacher wrote a new, cohesive curriculum to help her and her colleagues identify goals and work toward them. Such efforts, some educators say, are in part due to NCLB, which helped highlight the struggles of many ELL learners.
