Oberstar announces opposition to Delta-Northwest merger:

Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., said Tuesday that he will oppose the proposed merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines because he believes it will be bad for competition. Oberstar, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said the merger would make it more difficult for smaller airlines to compete. The St. Paul Pioneer Press points out the merits of Oberstar's argument but also explains the benefits a merger would provide.
