S&P to provide complementary view of banks' capital adequacy

Standard & Poor's is planning to offer an independent analysis of banks' capitalization to complement the capital-adequacy ratios calculated using Basel II rules. The ratings agency said it was concerned about the inability to compare and the inconsistency in the Basel II ratio. S&P noted that while banks have developed systems to calculate Basel II ratios, "these systems are still not fully seasoned."
