Government expected to say all banks passed stress tests

Most market observers expect the government to announce that the banks involved in the stress tests passed and the industry is strong enough to withstand the economic downturn. "We expect the stress test to demonstrate that the 19 banks are all well-capitalized even under the stress test's worst-case scenario," said Scott Talbott, senior vice president of government affairs for the Financial Services Roundtable. Analysts and economists, however, say such positive results raise questions about the tests.
