Group says civil liberties must be weighed with cybersecurity

As the Obama administration puts the finishing touches on a 60-day review of the government's cybersecurity efforts, the White House also must consider the importance of transparency and protecting Americans' civil liberties, according to a public-interest group called the Center for Democracy and Technology. "When the administration talks about cybersecurity, at least in advance of this release, cybersecurity is broadly defined in ways that could sweep virtually any aspect of American life into the mix," said Leslie Harris, the group's president and CEO.
