Large banks could receive billions to modify mortgages

The Treasury Department said Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and three other major U.S. banks could receive almost $10 billion if they help keep homeowners from foreclosure by modifying troubled mortgages. Other mortgage servicers will also be eligible for the federal subsidies, which are part of a $50 billion program.
