Poll: Few hospitals meet standards for CPOE, other safety measures

A survey by The Leapfrog Group that involved more than 1,200 acute-care hospitals found that only 7% met its criteria for full deployment of computerized physician order entry systems. Leapfrog, an employer consortium based in Washington, requires hospitals to process at least 75% of inpatient drug orders via CPOE and to use a specific tool for assessing whether their platforms notify clinicians of common errors.
