Analyst: Slots-playing "core gambler" is fueling Las Vegas rebound

The Nevada Gaming Control Board's Michael Lawton, a senior research analyst, says the all-important "core gambler" is returning to Las Vegas and helping boost its economic rebound. Financial gaming analyst Anthony Lucas says core gamblers are the folks who gravitate toward the slots rather than table games and the people who pay to stay in Las Vegas. "The casinos make much more of a profit off slots and hotel rooms than they do off food and beverage combined," Lucas said.
