Researchers use ESCs to treat macular degeneration in rats

U.S. researchers successfully infused specialized retinal cells derived from embryonic stem cells into the eyes of rats with macular degeneration. The findings were to be presented at a stem cell meeting in Sydney. Researchers are seeking U.S. approval for human trials that could start by 2014.
