A Finnish study in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology revealed a correlation between weight gain during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy and BMI-related and abdominal obesity in offspring at age 16. High maternal BMI before gestation was also linked to an increased risk of obesity in adolescence, suggesting that prepregnancy weight may be a more important predictor of outcomes, researchers noted.
