Tammy Baldwin calls for marriage plank in Democratic platform

Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., an out lesbian and a candidate for the U.S. Senate, said this weekend the Democratic Party platform should include language supportive of marriage equality. Speaking at the Victory Fund’s National Champagne Brunch in Washington, D.C., Baldwin also called for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act and passage of laws that would protect LGBT workers from employment discrimination. “There’s not a pro-equality majority controlling the House of Representatives right now. So, on the House side, we really have to continue to build support for the day on which we first have a leadership that’s pro-equality,” Baldwin said.
