All teachers are literacy teachers under common core

Some educators are bracing for what is expected to be a major shift in teaching and learning under the Common Core State Standards. The standards call for a greater focus on nonfiction material and more reading, writing and vocabulary lessons in social studies and science courses. In social studies, that could mean reading the U.S. Constitution, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter from the Birmingham Jail and other historical documents, while science courses could include reading scientific journals.
