Calif.'s AVID program in jeopardy due to budget cuts

Some educators and students in California are concerned that budget cuts could derail the successful and long-standing Advancement Via Individual Determination program, which helps guide middle-achieving students toward college. The decision last year by Gov. Jerry Brown to veto about $8.1 million in funding could now put the AVID at risk by shifting program costs to struggling school districts.
