Pets take center stage in marketing strategies

According to the American Pet Products Association, Americans spent $53 billion on their pets in 2012, and businesses are taking notice. Several major brands including Toyota, Travelers Insurance and Subaru have built successful marketing campaigns around dogs. IKEA Germany created spots for dogs to snooze while their owners shop, and Alaska Airlines provides travelers with the industry's only guarantee of pet flight safety.
