China completes work on 20-mile-long plateau rail tunnel

Work on China's Xinguanjiao Tunnel, touted as the longest plateau rail tunnel in the world, has been completed. The 20-mile-long structure, which took about seven years to construct, "posed challenges for engineers due to high altitude, complicated geological conditions and tight budgets," said Liu Hairong, one of the project's officials.
