Prom offers life-skills lessons for students with disabilities

Special-education teacher Mary Bebber is using prom night to teach life-skills lessons. Bebber and her aides at a Wisconsin high school will escort the student group to the dance, where she says she can observe their progress in a social setting. Bebber also will provide a safe place for students to go if they need a break from the dance. "My job is to teach them daily living skills and part of daily living is doing recreational activity: going out for dinner, going to a dance, shopping for clothes," she said.
