Insurer trimming some New York policies

MetLife said it planned to reduce the number of new home insurance policies it writes in New York City and surrounding counties, citing a need to protect itself from "a large event, such as a hurricane." The company told agents they would need prior approval to write new business on Long Island, in New York City, and in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties, but stressed it would not cancel current policies.
