L.A. teachers to release plan for district overhaul

In anticipation of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's State of the City address, which likely will broadly outline his takeover plan for Los Angeles schools, a coalition consisting of the L.A. teachers union and a group of community organizations today plans to release its own reform vision: The group wants to expand the school board, pare down the system of eight regional districts to four or five "support units" and allow teachers to develop curriculum.
