Lawmaker will propose measure for federal insurance regulation

Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., said he plans to introduce legislation this week that would create a federal insurance regulatory agency. The Office of Insurance Information would collect data on the insurance industry and coordinate on regulatory issues with state regulators. Some property and casualty insurers say they support the current system of state regulation and note that the states have made a significant investment in insurance regulation.
