McCain proposes gas-tax suspension

John McCain's proposal to suspend federal fuel taxes from Memorial Day to Labor Day is drawing sharp disapproval from some economists as well as from leading Democrats. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman James Oberstar said the McCain plan would save most drivers only $30 over the course of the summer but would create a $12 billion deficit for a Highway Trust Fund already teetering on the "edge of insolvency."
