Miami airport project back on track, director says

It is seven years behind schedule and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget, but the "largest airport terminal under construction in the world today" is finally on track, according to its director. Miami-Dade County Aviation Director Jose Abreu says the $2.85 billion expansion of Miami International Airport will include 48 new gates, 242 ticket counters, a four-station people mover, and nearly 10 miles of conveyor belts to handle 45,000 bags a day. With multiple county authorities sorting through 90 construction and service contracts, work on the mile-long North Terminal is now slated for completion in March 2011.
