Missouri alternative-certification bill goes to governor

Missouri career-changers may soon be able to complete an American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence program to earn their teaching licenses rather than returning to college to learn classroom skills, if the state's governor signs off on an alternative-certification bill that has been sent to him. One lawmaker critical of the bill described it as "watering down the profession of teachers" by conveying "a message that teaching is easy and you don't have to do much preparation."
