Rent growth slows in Western states

A decline in occupancies and higher unemployment forced apartment rents in the West to climb at a slower pace in the first quarter, according to research company RealFacts. The rate of rent growth in 15 states, most of them in the West, was 3% to an average of $993, down from growth of 3.6% in the year-ago period.
