Retail sector's "perfect storm" isn't sinking everybody

Although it is true that the retail sector is battling some fierce headwinds, a lot of vacant space is being taken over by smaller tenants and "a surprisingly large amount of what you would have thought to be single-tenant boxes are being retenanted," said Schecky Schechner, managing director at Barclays Capital. Some of the healthier retailers are talking to landlords about buying the space they occupy, rather than asking for rent cuts, said Andrew Graiser, co-president of DJM Asset Management.
