Is England's education watchdog too big to be effective?

England's education watchdog, Ofsted, has grown too large to be effective and should be divided into two organisations, according to a new report from the Commons Education Select Committee. The report recommends separate agencies to oversee education and children's care. The report also questions the quality of Ofsted inspectors, who often have no recent experience in education. The chief schools inspector said the suggestions in the report will be considered.
