ONC interoperability chief announces increased EHR use among docs

The number of primary care doctors who use EHRs has increased from 20% to 40% over the past two years, said Dr. Doug Fridsma, director of ONC's Office of Standards and Interoperability, at the recent ICD-10 Summit sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association. Fridsma stated that an incremental approach is important in establishing the basis for an interoperable health information exchange. "We are making real progress on EHR adoption, and we are developing a workforce that is beginning to be trained to support this progress," he said.
