Telemonitors may not keep elderly out of hospital, study finds

Home monitoring systems did not prevent hospitalizations or visits to the emergency department among elderly patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, according to a study from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Data showed 64% of patients who used telemonitoring went to the ED or were hospitalized, compared with 57% of patients who got usual care, according to the study in Archives of Internal Medicine.
