Purell's long road to hand-sanitizer success

Purell is made by GOJO Industries, which has come a long way from its roots making soap. Once dubbed Purel, the alcohol-based hand sanitizer was originally created for hospital workers in the 1980s. When studies confirmed that an alcohol-based sanitizer was more effective than hand-washing alone, sales took off.
