Sen. Shelby seeks impact study of bank capital rules

Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., introduced a bill this week calling for an economic impact study of proposed rules that would require banks to hold more capital. "Congress needs a detailed analysis of current and new capital rules to ensure that taxpayers are protected without unduly impeding bank lending or economic growth," Shelby said. If passed, the bill could slow the adoption of Basel III bank capital rules in the U.S.
