N.Y. names team of advisers for potential ed-tech spending

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo named former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Harlem Children's Zone President and CEO Geoffrey Canada and Auburn School District Superintendent Constance Evelyn to the Smart Schools Commission, which will advise the state on how to use a proposed $2 billion bond to improve education. The money can be used to advance classroom technology, connect schools to high-speed broadband and construct classroom space, among other projects. Cuomo proposed the Smart Schools bond in January, and the state's voters will approve or reject it in November.
