TSA halts TWIC activations following security incident

04/17/2014 | WTKR-TV (Norfolk, Va.)

The Transportation Security Administration is temporarily putting on hold all activations and PIN number resets of Transportation Worker Identification Credential cards in order to complete a technology upgrade, the agency said on its website. The halt follows an incident three weeks ago on a naval base, in which a truck driver who gained access with a TWIC card shot and killed an officer, although it isn't clear if the stop is related. Activations will resume May 5.
