Texas Students Show Record Gains On TAAS

The Texas Education Agency yesterday reported that a record 85% of 10th-graders this year passed the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills exam. Gains were made by all ethnic groups. The biggest improvement was in reading. Officials said the impressive showing is proof that students are ready for the tougher TAKS exam, which is to be phased in starting next year.
